Google winding down URL Shortener Goo.gl

Search engine giant Google winding down its famous URL shortener service Goo.gl on April 13. From April 13th only existing customers will be able to create short links from the Google URL Shortener service goo.gl. Google recommended using the new mobile app based deep linking service Firebase Dynamic Links(FDL) and other best URL shortening services like bit.ly and owl.ly. The famous Google URL Shortener service goo.gl is was started in 2009 to help people to simplify URL for sharing through different websites and mobile apps. Many URL shorteners like bit.ly, owl.ly, deck.ly, su.pr launched after that.

The purpose of winding down Google URL shortener service is to focus on their mobile app based deep-linking service Firebase dynamic links (FDL). FDLs or Firebase Dynamic Links are smart links or URLs which helps to drive quality and potential visitors to a particular page of your app on Android, IOS or Web. All existing links will continue to redirect to the destination web address. Existing links on goo.gl will be active till 2019 March 30. Users can manage all their short links and its analytics until March 30, 2019. In fact, Google is transitioning its URL shortener services to FDL or Firebase Dynamic Links. Google announced this news on their blog.
