Which is better – Octa Core or Quad Core ?
Earlier people bought smartphones depending on advertisements. Now when we have a clear idea of how smartphones work, customers have become conscious of different aspects of mobile phone. The largest confusion at present is which better Octa Core or Quad Core processors. Its a universal fact that a processor has the most important role in the performance of a smartphone.
Around a couple of years back, Quad Core processor mobiles were a luxury in the world of smartphones. There are only a few famous devices that come with a Quad Core processors. Looking back, however, we have witnessed a huge growth in mobile performance sector. Today, even some of the budget friendly devices Octa Core processors. Now you have a choice when it comes to choosing the processor for a device.
Lets spot out the difference between quad core and octa core processors so that you can make a quick decision. This way, you can really understand what it is to have an octa core instead of quad core.
Smartphones have finally become become mini versions of fully fledged computers. As it happens, you can even find fully fledged processors inside them. As you witnessed in the world of computers, the primary function of a processor is of executing tasks and processes.
Processor Core are basically the processing units of the processors. Let’s make it simple to understand – in a single processor say, Snapdragon 410 – you can have more than one core. That is, the processor core is an important as well as required component of a computer.
Now that you have a clear idea about smartphone processor and processor cores. Let’s find the real differences between Octa Core Processor and Quad Core one.
If we talk in terms of numbers, the classification is simple. Octa Core Processors have eight different processor cores in it’s chips and when it comes to the case of Quad Core Processors, there are only four processor cores. But, this does not mean that an octa core processor is twice as powerful as quad core one. There are several other factors involved in here, the major one being the organization of processor cores.
In the case of quad core processors, all the processor cores can work at the same time, but only under some particular circumstances. When you are reading an article or browsing your messages, all it’s four cores may not be working. However, if you are streaming some HD videos or dealing with some high graphic game, chances are that all the cores are working.
In the case of most Octa Core processors in market, things are a bit different. According to the processor design, there are two sets of processor core. According to the processor design, there are two sets of processor cores. Each set will be having four processor cores. Among these, four cores are low powered and other four cores are high powered. One thing to note is that the low power cores are always at work, in smartphones. So, you will not have to worry if you can’t find more speed in your Octa Core Processor device when compared to the quad core ones.
In the case of quad-core processors, optimization of apps is a big deal. As far as we know, there aren’t many android apps that use Octa Core setup in the correct manner.
That sums up the question as to why you can’t find the extra speed with Octa Core devices. In easy to understand words, it does not matter how many cores a processor has if the device or apps can’t manage them. Apple Inc. still depends on Dual Core Processors, and there haven’t been any major complaints of performance.
As we all know, processor consumes a lot of battery. In the common scenario, you will drain your battery quickly if you are doing some resource hungry tasks, like HD streaming or gaming. The number of cores play an important role here too.
Suppose 4 processor cores are working simultaneously inside your smartphone and in another case, 8 processor cores are working. The battery consumption will be higher in the second possibility, because you are not going to have all four cores or all eight cores working at the same time.
Even then, you might see some extra loss if your smartphone has an Octa Core processor inside.
Conclusion – Octa Core or Quad Core
Recalling everything said above, there is no point in going after the numbers. Infact, just because you have an Octa Core Processor in the device does not mean you have better performance than Quad Core devices. It’s about the whether those processor cores are used properly – by both the device and all the apps in your phone.
Right now, there aren’t many androids apps that fall into that category of consuming battery a lot, but we can expect them soon. Until that point, purchasing an Octa Core smartphone instead of a Quad Core smartphone isn’t going to do any good. You will be literally wasting your money. However, you should not just be concerned about numbers while picking the processors.
In some cases, Quad Core processor can be powerful than Octa Core Processor. It’s also about how the cores are being used in them. In other words, believing ‘Octa Core is powerful than Quad Core’ is a myth constructed by marketers and smartphone manufacturers, to make more money from common people. And, never ever fall into that pit again. Processor definitely matters, and not the number of cores.
